or more than 60 years, Aberdeen Folk Club has been meeting on a weekly basis to share stories, poems, and songs old and new. This week we feature Christine McGrath & Sandy Leggat, and Stephen Molloy.
Sandy Leggat is a well-known fiddler and mandolin player, an accomplished musician on the local traditional music scene who has played with a number of bands and groups over the years.
Christine McGrath is a traditional type of “folkie” who accompanies her songs with a distinctive finger picking guitar style. Her repertoire is mainly from the rich Scottish tradition especially her native Angus area but also includes some more contemporary influences.
Both Sandy and Christine are regular performers at folk clubs and sessions throughout Aberdeen City and Shire including Aberdeen Folk Club, Stonehaven Folk Club, Bennachie Club, Ellon, Tarves and Millbank.
Together they will perform a set of traditional and contemporary songs with guitar and fiddle accompaniment.
Stephen, an emerging singer-songwriter originally from Aberdeen, has spent the past two years writing and performing across the city’s open mic scene. Rooted in the folk tradition, his songs are built around storytelling and reflection. His writing explores lessons learned — about himself, about relationships, and about life more broadly — with an honest, unhurried delivery. Grounded in the North-East and drawing from lived experience, Stephen brings a stripped-back, thoughtful set of original material to the Aberdeen folk scene.
Come join Aberdeen Folk Club as we raise funds for the Aberdeen Arts Centre and showcase local community music this summer.
