About

St Margaret’s School for Girls proudly presents The Sound of Music, one of the world’s most beloved musicals, at Aberdeen Arts Centre.
Set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Austrian Alps, the story follows Maria, a young nun, whose free-spirited nature does not always fit easily within the walls of Nonnberg Abbey. With the guidance and support of the other nuns, Maria is sent to become governess to the seven children of the widowed Captain von Trapp. As she brings music, laughter and joy back into their lives, Maria and the Captain discover an unexpected love.

Alongside the family are the elegant and sophisticated Elsa Schraeder and the charming, charismatic Max Detweiler, both of whom encourage the Captain to accept the changing political situation in Austria, believing that adapting to the new regime is the safest and most sensible course. Faced with pressure from both his personal and political worlds, the Captain must decide where his loyalties truly lie. As the Nazi regime tightens its grip on Austria, Maria, the Captain and the von Trapp family must confront difficult choices and find the courage to stand together.

Performed by the talented girls of St Margaret’s School for Girls, this vibrant production brings pupils from across the school together in a celebration of music, drama and performance. Featuring unforgettable songs including Do-Re-Mi, The Lonely Goatherd, Sixteen Going on Seventeen, Edelweiss and Climb Ev’ry Mountain, the production promises an uplifting and memorable evening for audiences of all ages.

Come and see the girls of St Margaret’s bring this timeless story to life on the stage of Aberdeen Arts Centre.
