What is the Aberdeen Kiltwalk?

The Aberdeen Kiltwalk is a mass-participation walking event where thousands step out in tartan to raise money for causes close to their hearts like Aberdeen Arts Centre.

The Aberdeen Kiltwalk has two distances:

What to expect on Kiltwalk day

Expect a fun, lively atmosphere with live music, cheering crowds, and a sea of tartan. Whether you’re doing the Mighty Stride or the Wee Wander, you’ll be part of a joyful, supportive community walking for a good cause.

There are rest stops, entertainment zones, and plenty of encouragement along the routes. From start to finish, the day is designed to celebrate kindness, togetherness, and local pride – so soak it all in and enjoy the journey!

Plus the day is dog-friendly, so you can bring your four-legged pal with you!

Training for the Kiltwalk: getting ready to walk

Start by building up your distance gradually in the weeks before the event. Comfortable footwear is key, as is staying hydrated and stretching. Whether you’re walking four or 18 miles, a bit of preparation will help you enjoy the day to the fullest.

Consider walking different terrains and practicing with the gear you’ll wear on the day. Training with friends or teammates can also make the process more enjoyable and keep you motivated.

What to wear for the Kiltwalk (besides a kilt!)

Comfort is crucial – think supportive shoes, moisture-wicking clothing, and weather-appropriate layers. Of course, kilts and tartan accessories are highly encouraged to celebrate Scottish pride and solidarity!

Don’t forget essentials like sun cream, a rain jacket, and a small backpack for water and snacks. Dress in layers so you can adjust to changing conditions throughout the walk.

The impact of arts funding on young people

Creative experiences have a powerful effect on young people, helping them build self-esteem, communication skills, and emotional resilience. With your help, Aberdeen Arts Centre can continue to offer a safe space for young people to explore their imaginations and grow through performance.

In a world that increasingly values innovation and adaptability, access to the arts helps prepare young people for the future. Through theatre, they learn teamwork, empathy, and perseverance – skills that stay with them for life.

Aberdeen Arts Centre’s role in the community

For decades, Aberdeen Arts Centre has been a cornerstone of the local cultural scene. We provide a welcoming space for community-led productions, workshops, and events. We champion inclusivity, accessibility, and creativity, making the arts available to everyone, regardless of background or ability.

We also play an important role in local education and wellbeing. We partner with local performing groups, schools, charities, professional artists and touring companies to deliver projects and performances that improve lives through creative expression.

Aberdeen Arts Centre is not just a venue – it’s a vital part of the social fabric of Aberdeen.
