Sheena Blackhall writes poem for Save Aberdeen Arts Centre campaign
Acclaimed poet, author, and storyteller Sheena Blackhall has long been a champion of language, culture, and community arts in the north east - and now she’s lending her voice to help save a place close to her heart.
As a long-time supporter and teacher at Aberdeen Arts Centre, where she once worked alongside the legendary Annie Inglis MBE, Sheena has seen first-hand the life-changing impact the venue has on young people and the wider creative community.
In a heartfelt show of support, she has written a brand new poem for the Save Aberdeen Arts Centre campaign - a powerful call to action and a reminder of what’s at stake.
From timid toddlers to blossoming teens
The Arts Centre changes lives
It’s the beating heart of the amateur scene
Where confidence building thrives.
The springboard for talent of the past
We need for the future too
Save it or lose it, it’s under threat
We need champions such as you.
If the stage lights dim, we’re all in the dark
This affordable, special place
It’s more than a venture, a second home
A cultural learning space.
The Children’s Theatre, where dreams were sown
The workshops, the early stage
For the talent of Aberdeen city’s young
Brought plays alive from the page.
Now is the time to bang the drum
Each contribution is vital
Don’t let the final curtain fall
On panto, or on recital.
